The adaptable spot size and focused laser ensures that even finer hairs can be targeted, especially on the face, chest and intimate areas. The treatment is potentially pain-free, as we use a cooling system to ensure treatment is as relaxing as possible, lessening the likelihood of hyperpigmentation and other possible side effects. This FDA approved technology is safe and effective for use on men and women’s skin.
The laser provides precisely controlled pulses of energy, which are absorbed by the melanin in the hair. As it heats the active hair follicles, it travels to the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.
To prepare the skin for treatment, the practitioner may cleanse, and/or shave the area if necessary. They will mark the areas to be treated clearly, to ensure absolute precision and to verify the skin and hair are suitable to be treated (you will be advised to avoid tanning and epilating during your course of treatment). You will be provided with protective eyewear which must be worn throughout the procedure.
The laser hand piece is then moved over the desired areas and activated. Although virtually painless, some do report an ‘elastic band snapping’ sensation against the skin, and you may in some cases view the follicles popping out. Once the treatment is completed, the practitioner will apply aloe vera gel to cool the skin and reduce any redness that may occur.
Treatment times vary upon the treated areas, with as short as 15 minutes for smaller areas such as underarms or chin, and up to 90 minutes for the full body.
The laser light targets melanin in the dark pigment of the hair, and therefore does not work on white, grey, or red hair. All clients must complete a medical history form to report any allergies, product use on the skin, tanning and previous treatments. Pregnancy is a contraindication of the treatment, and we advise all clients to wait until post-partum and after breast-feeding before beginning treatment. Our practitioners will patch test the areas which you require to select the correct settings and ensure an ongoing course of safe and effective treatment.
Depending on the thickness of the hair and the area being treated, we recommend all clients have a course of 8 sessions. However, there are options of 6 sessions for those with thinner and more sparce hairs. Maintenance sessions may be required after your course. Many clients have reported seeing results after just one session, where growth has been significantly reduced.
For the first 24 hours post-treatment, you will need to avoid exercise, sun exposure, tanning and hot showers to avoid irritation and potential pigmentation. There may be a temporary reddening of the skin and a feeling of heat, however this subsides very quickly. Clients are advised not to epilate, wax, or thread the areas treated as the hair must continue to grow to be removed by the laser. We advise instead that the areas are exfoliated and shaven (not dry shave) to improve the quality of the skin, reduce chances of ingrown hairs and assist the hair in its shedding.
Both lasers and IPLs use light to heat the hair follicle and prevent regrowth, and therefore are popular forms of permanent hair removal treatment. Where IPL uses a wide range of visible light wavelength, the lasers produce a more focused wavelength, enabling a more intense, controlled, and targeted treatment. Our combination laser can also be used to treat olive through to darker skin, unlike the IPL which can produce poor results and higher risks for negative side effects.
A full course of treatment (8 sessions recommended) undertaken at consistent intervals will result in the permanent reduction of hair growth. Yearly top up sessions may be required for maintenance. We recommend clients continue to use Aloe Vera gel and SPF 50post each treatment to maintain and care for the skin.
