Hi, Welcome to BetterMind: Modern Psychology & Counselling! I am the Clinical Director at BetterMind: Modern Psychology and Counseling, and I am a licensed counselor who works closely with adults and adolescents in overcoming their emotional concerns through individual counselling sessions in person or online. I have completed my Masters of Professional Counselling from Monash University, graduating with High Distinction. 

Whether it’s managing anxiety, coping with life transitions, navigating relationships, or improving self-esteem, we collaboratively explore the underlying factors contributing to your current challenges and work towards finding effective solutions. We have a great team of clinicians at BetterMind KL that value the unique perspective each client brings and by being compassionate and sensitive to their counselling needs. 

What Can I Expect in My First Therapy Session?

Safe and non-judgmental therapeutic space.

The counselling room is a therapeutic and warm, especially when you have an empathic counsellor to greet you! The first session is unlike the next sessions, and usually known as the evaluation session, or what I like to call it ‘ the getting to know you’ aspect of therapy where the therapist asks a series of questions about you and your background to gain a holistic understanding about you that can give context to your issues and be able to provide you with the support and relevant interventions that are suited for you in the next therapy sessions. In addition, the therapist will also share some information about his/her/they therapeutic styles, so you know a bit more about the therapist you are working with and this spearheads the rapport building between you and your therapist. This session with your therapist usually lasts about an hour, though some may last longer depending on the complexity of the presenting issues.

Minimal Paperwork.

During the first session, your therapist may go over signed paperwork with you such as the confidentiality agreement, informed consent, to ensure that you understand the technicalities of what therapy entails and that you and your therapist are on the same page in matters pertaining to ethics and legality


Questions, Questions, Questions.

Besides the therapist asking you specific questions, you can also utilise this session to ask any questions you have about therapy, your presenting issues, etc. I can empathise that starting your therapy journey can be overwhelming, and it takes immense courage to acknowledge that you need support, so feel free to ask away in your first session as you are in a safe space and your therapist is here to guide you through this therapeutic process

In sum, at the end of the first session, you usually feel more confident about your choice to begin counselling, and it’s normal to have an amalgamation of emotions about starting therapy. Remember, change takes time and consistent effort. You got this. 

Personal development is the belief that you are worth the effort, time, and energy needed to develop yourself.

Therapy Frequency

Weekly Sessions.
Purpose: Ideal in the beginning stages of therapy to enable the client to explore their thoughts and emotions consistently, and build the confidence and coping mechanisms to navigate through it.

x3 monthly Sessions.
Purpose: Ideal in the beginning stages of therapy to enable the client to explore their thoughts and emotions consistently, and build the confidence and coping mechanisms to navigate through it.

Monthly Sessions.
Purpose: To maintain progress from therapy.

Once every two months.
Purpose: To check in for any support and client re-alignment

Emergency Session.
Purpose: It can be scheduled at any time. Conducted whilst client is/isn’t still actively seeking therapy.
