The divorce process in Pakistan is governed by Islamic law and the Family Courts Act, allowing a husband to initiate Talaq (divorce) by declaring it verbally or in writing, followed by a mandatory 90-day Iddat period for reconciliation. Alternatively, a wife can seek Khula (judicial divorce) by filing a petition in Family Court, citing valid grounds under divorce law in Pakistan. The court may grant Khula after mediation efforts fail, requiring the wife to return her dower (Haq Mehr) unless waived. For non-Muslims, divorce procedures follow their respective personal laws. Once finalized, the divorce must be registered with the Union Council to obtain a legal divorce certificate, ensuring compliance with legal and documentation requirements.
