Law Firms are Planning on Spending More for Online Marketing

“Does our law firm really need SEO for lawyers? We’ve been doing fine without it.” I absolutely understand why an attorney would think that. After all, it’s probable that they built their law firm without online marketing. So, why would you need it now? Well, times change. Many lawyers understand that. In fact, it looks like law firms have embraced digital marketing more than ever before. That’s just one of many fascinating tidbits from a recent study. \"wd

Law Firms Want to “Hit the Ground Running”

That’s one of the major takeaways I had from this survey published in Law.com. The key, for me, is the line: “most law firms are projecting spending more on BD (business development) and marketing efforts in 2021 than they did in 2020.” This gets back to something that Danny had mentioned before: business owners and marketers of all kinds held back during the pandemic. They were waiting for the right time to strike. This very well might be it, as more and more of the world opens up. If you’re an attorney, it seems as if you’re in a bit of an arms race here. For example, if another firm in your area has a hefty marketing budget and yours doesn’t, it’s going to be awfully hard not to lose clients to them. Later in the article, the “general manager for LexisNexis’ Legal Business Solutions division” says: “if you are underperforming, people start pointing fingers at marketing. The firms that have been successful recently are in a better position to invest more of their budget in marketing this year.” That’s also how those firms are going to continue to be in a better position, too. If you have a marketing plan that gets you the right kind of ROI, you can continue to grow that way. \"wd

Not Just Spending Money on Marketing, But Spending Money the Right Way

The study makes a point of differentiating between “no-growth” and “high-growth” law firms. Their definitions are firms that had <0% and 11%+ growth, respectively. A very revealing quote: “when asked about marketing challenges, 29.7% of no-growth firms said they had no long-term strategy, while only 11.4% of high-growth firms agreed.” It’s hard to feel optimistic about the future of your marketing if you don’t have a long-term strategy. Or, alternatively, a long-term strategy that you believe in. This is just one more reason it’s so important to get SEO for lawyers from professionals. If you’re just “winging it,” trying to figure out your marketing as you’re going, it’s natural to feel like you don’t have a “long-term strategy” (since you don’t). However, that doesn’t stop law firms from spending. They understand that they have to to maintain pace. For example, “high-growth firms project growth of 38% in BD spend… And no-growth firms are projecting just a 10% increase in spending.” So, to recap, there are plenty of law firms that don’t have a long-term strategy, yet are going to increase their spending. That’s not a good position to be in, to say the least. With a long-term strategy, backed by proven results, you can help your law firm to grow no matter what.
