This means the skid steer can turn on a dime, without needing a lot of space to do so. A forklift, or lift truck, is a machine that’s specifically designed for lifting and moving heavy materials on flat surfaces like concrete. It’s got a big mast with forks on the end that can lift and move pallets or other heavy loads around. Forklifts are often used in warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities to help unload and organize goods, but skid steer attachments can also aid in these tasks. Some forklifts are built for rough terrain, but generally, they do best on even ground. You can even get fork extensions to give the forks a longer reach. Compared to a skid steer, the main job of a forklift is to lift heavy stuff and put it in different spots at different heights. That’s basically it.

A skid steer is way more compact and can get into tight spaces because it can turn inside its own footprint. Forklifts, on the other hand, need more space to move around and operate safely – especially when they’re loaded up with heavy stuff. Skid steers also win out when it comes to versatility because you can get so many different attachments for them. The visibility from a forklift is often worse than that of a skid steer, because the mast gets in the way of what the operator can see in front of the machine.
