Micro-excavators are also known as compact excavators or mini-diggers. The micro-excavator represents the smallest category of excavation machinery. Due to their small dimensions and low operating weights, small excavators were developed for precision work in tight access areas. As a result, the micro-excavator is smaller than other categories of excavators and is limited in terms of lifting and moving capacities, as well as the depth of material that can be removed.
While the two are often confused with each other, there is a difference between a micro-excavator and a mini-excavator. The smallest unit available is the micro-excavator, designed to handle smaller and lighter tasks with ease. Because of its very small and lightweight design, it has much greater flexibility and can reach places that a mini-excavator cannot get into.
There are several attributes of micro-excavators that make them so versatile. First and foremost, their small size allows them to pass through standard doors and access areas with very narrow openings. Additionally, they frequently come with rubber tracks to help protect delicate surfaces such as lawns. Finally, because of their hydraulic systems, micro-excavators can easily attach to a variety of accessories, including an auger for drilling holes or a breaker for doing minor demolition work.
